Spending a quiet Christmas holiday at this historic Club was relaxing and really was what I needed. The place was virtually empty except for a few regular club members who came and went to use the pool or relax. There could not have been more than 15 people in the place the night of December 25th, and it seemed like I never saw more than 1 or 2 at one time inside the hotel during the night.

With no stores or restaurants open to speak of, we found a Japanese place to eat in Downtown Berkeley, then headed back to the hotel for nice relaxing swim (one of many!).

The Club was designed by Julia Morgan, who also designed the famous Hearst Castle and hundreds of other buildings in the Bay area. I tried a bit of EVP in small sessions around the hotel alone, and the place I had the most results, was the Loggia Room.

I did three sessions inside this room as you will see in the video below, both during the day and at night. Nothing dark or menacing here, just quiet and relaxation.

Did I capture anything? I did, a few good ones, take a look and see for yourself. Some of my favorite types of EVPs are names, and I managed to get one really good one this time out.

I am going to have to come back for sure.

It features many of my stronger EVPs that I have gathered over the past 4-5 years. Let me know what you think and I will make other short videos like it in the future.
Another neat hidden spot that is currently a restaurant in Virginia City, NV is the Cafe Del Rio. Some great Mexican food mixed with other cultural foods is a nice blend of tastes and ideas. But, this is not a food blog, but I truly love the food!

Cafe Del Rio is inside what used to be an old grocery store (downstairs) and rooming house (upstairs). Jackie and I ate here a couple of times during the weekend and then were allowed a quick look see investigation upstairs in the old rooming house portion where Jackie's friend Pam, was able to capture an interesting white mist figure on camera last time.

Four of the 12 rooms were situated now as banquet rooms for the Cafe, and the remainder (behind another door and down a narrow hallway, were under various states of restoration. At first I though maybe it was an old hotel, but the downstairs portion did not seem to match any other hotel I had been in in Virginia City. Wide and open and 3 entrances in the front of the building? Now that I know it was an old grocery store, it make more sense that the upstairs was a rooming house.

We poked around in and out of the small rooms doing some EVP and taking
lots of photographs. Before we began, we both were standing just inside
one of the two banquet rooms and I heard the creak of a door open and
checked and no door had open that I could see. When we went to go into
the door leading to the other rooms, I found an inner door that creaked
exactly like the one I had heard just minutes before!

I didn't sense anything to speak of but did manage to get a few interesting EVP's while we explored this lost portion of the building.

Who knows what history existed inside these small rooms on "C" Street. Miners, cowboys, drunkards, prostitutes, etc. If the walls could talk.

I would love to return here after closing maybe and see what we find after hours. Who might still be renting a room all these years later?
A recent overnight trip to San Nella, CA for an Odd Fellows conference, allowed us to stay at the Hotel Del Oro.

The hotel was fairly deserted right off the highway and nobody seemed to be staying there except for our Lodge members. There was an eerie quality to the place, especially after hours.

Some fellow Lodge members who came to the conference last year and stayed here, said a security guard told them, she would sit at the end of the courtyard in the gazebo and see a figure moving along the side of the courtyard.
The hotel has a restaurant but it was closed up, not sure if it is seasonal or due to lack of guests. Entire wings of the hotel were padlocked up and not being used as well, so one has to wonder if the heyday for this hotel has come and gone.

Shadow figures were said to be seen moving around inside both the restaurant and the dining room.

We did some EVP work inside the dining room for quite a while with a few interesting EVPs as well as some unusual table knocking.
We got nothing from the EVP session, but did capture some interesting results from the Ghost Box. Now I am still unsure of the Ghost Box and whether its results are real or wishful thinking, since it uses a radio which is designed to pick up broadcast signals to begin with, but I am still using the device to see what it can deliver. Here we got some replies.

I did leave my new Sony HDR Music Video camera shooting at an angle towards the courtyard overnight, but found zero results of any moving figures.

I wish I knew what used to be here before the hotel, I know it used to be an old Ramada Inn, but before that I haven't a clue. Maybe someone who lives closer knows more about the history of the city and the property.
The hotel is 100 years old this year, and was built for the Pan American Exposition in 1915.

We did visit room 1101 where the apparition was said to have been seen at the foot of the bed. We did some EVP work in all rooms and locations we visited, including 1501 and in the halls on floors 13 and 15.
Took another overnight investigation trip locally to the San Remo Hotel and Fior d'Italia restaurant in San Francisco, CA.

Each time I return to this location I always manage to capture *something*, and this trip proved that point.

Lots of activity in the restaurant and some interesting results when I left a recorder overnight.

I always manage to get names down the restaurant basement and this time I managed to get a chinese name. A few years ago we captured a Chinese accent from a man in the kitchen area. Check out the video, some interesting finds...
On October 3, 2013 I attended the Alameda Paranormal Researchers event on the USS Hornet. Most investigation teams seem to have a location they like to call "their own", a place they work with to hold events and help in any way they can to ensure the historic properties are on-going, whether it be a house museum, old hotel or in this case a retired Navy vessel. APR works tirelessly in holding events and donating funds to keep the museum ship afloat and active. And in turn the museum works with the paranormal team in holding events and investigations. It is two organized entities working together and providing mutual benefits for one another.

I find no issues with this mind set, as they are working on a continual basis with the museum and bringing them both funding and visitors. There sadly are other paranormal groups out there who do like to "lay claim" to locations that are said to be haunted, and make it clear to all other groups that the place is theirs and there is no room for more than one investigation team at that given location.

This behavior seems juvenile to me as the one who really needs the support in the end is the museum. The USS Hornet Museum I am sure hopes to be around long after local paranormal groups have gone and the ghost hunting craze has waned.

APR seemed to encourage the invite of guest speakers and others in different fields of the paranormal to the event and upcoming events. By widening the community, it can only expand the potential and ultimately benefit the historic locations that they tend to flock to to "investigate".

I attended this even in Alameda, CA with friends Jennifer, Jackie, Matt and Amanda. Three of the five people in our group being from San Francisco, so this was across the water from our normal stomping grounds and our own group www.goldengateparanormal.com

After a pizza feed (yes I put a $10 bill into the tip cup since I know too well running these events is not cheap and any help is a help) and to hopefully encourage others to tip generously as they consume the pizza and Krispy Kreme donuts. Then we watched some former evidence caught on the ship by APR and a speaker from MUFON, whom while listening to her speak helped me remember my older curiosity and interest in UFO research back in the 90's. Good information and a solid even well planned and executed by APR.

Then we broke into small teams of 5-7 people and visited various locations on board the historic ship museum to investigate.

I had collected 4-5 EVPs on the ship at different locations. I have my usual video of findings in this article. One was captured in the Ready Room when we asked "What's your favorite John Wayne movie". A nice whispered reply tells us how we were perceived that night :)

As we moved to the ship's movie theater I captured another EVP that was "talking about us" if you like.

I did have one interesting experience on the ship when we moved from our first location (the Sickbay) to the second location (the Ready Room). The entire group was ahead of me climbing the ladder upwards and Marlon was behind me making sure we were all accounted for. At one point I saw both a person above me climb up and then turn right, and another still climbing upwards. Now, the trouble is, our entire group went right, nobody else was supposed to be above me and continuing to climb upwards, but I heard their shoes on the ladder. I asked Marlon if we were splitting up, and some going up and some turning right, he said nope, turn right. I climbed up the rest of the way, and turned right and our entire group was inside the Ready Room. So who continued climbing up onto the next ladder up ahead of me then? Who indeed.

A great time was had by all and even Jennifer captured a pretty cool EVP that sounded like a radio conversation with a Captain and an Admiral. Trouble was, there was no conversation on a radio while we were all in Sickbay. A chat from the past maybe?
Another trip to Virginia City is always a lot of fun because you have so many old buildings to investigate.

This time, we hit the old favorite The Washoe Club. We arrived after 11:00PM and had a drink and then proceeded to wait inside the museum until the bar closed for the night and we could begin.

We checked our gear and made sure we had enough battery power and then when the time came, headed upstairs.

Usually I tend to stay for at least 4-5 hours (or have in the past) but this time out, we had 2 locations to investigate on this Friday night, the Washoe Club and the old "For Sale" Knights of Pythias building, which was a fraternal club much like the Masons or Odd Fellows.

Once upstairs we did a group EVP session, then broke off into groups. I did not capture much this visit except 2 EVPs, both from the same recorder left on the banister going up to the 3rd floor.

After less than 90 minutes, we move down the street and up to Street "B" to the Knights of Pythias building. A Two-story building badly in need of some repair and upkeep. Although for sale, one of our group members managed to get us into the building both Friday night and Saturday day.
She slept in Mrs. Mackay's room and I slept in Mr. Mackay's room. We kept the adjoining door open in case any activity might occur during the night. I set up a video camcorder out in the hall facing the stairs leading up to the hallway. Who knows what you will capture in this old house? Well, take a look at the video above and you will see exactly what that camcorder captured as we slept.

Another recent visit to the notorious prison, Alcatraz and some activity up inside the hospital.

We first did some EVP in the infirmary and then I moved around the whole hospital itself, including the pharmacy. I began and ended inside the operating room.

Some interesting results and a couple rather clear and shocking voices. I won't spoil it, but when watching the video you will see each of the 6 EVPs presented as is where I tell you the speech of one of us prior to or after the actual EVP, and mark the EVP as simply "EVP (in green). Then I repeat the same EVP and tell you what I think the EVP says (in green) and then play just the EVP again twice, only now it is isolated by itself.

I have captured some very strange full-voiced EVPs out on the island and I have to wonder if with all of the natural movement of the currents and tides, if it doesn't help magnify the voices with natural energies around it. The power of nature has been used in many of our power plants around the world, and the movement of water is pretty powerful. I never know what I will get out there in the middle of the Bay, but they are amazing results nonetheless. Take a listen.

On a recent vacation trip to New York, my friend Lisa and I decided to drive Upstate and visit the mansion that was used in the filming of the two 1969 and 1971 DARK SHADOWS films, the Lyndhurst Estate.

Since the mansion is located in Tarrytown, location of "Sleepy Hollow" from the Ichabod Crane story, we stopped for a peek inside the local cemetery dating back to the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.

This was a fairly large cemetery with the freeway on one side and a running creek or river on the other (there was also the small overpass of cement with a plaque that said it was the Sleepy Hollow bridge). I imagine it used to be a small wooden bridge over the creek back in the day, but now, it is
simply a small cement overpass on the paved road.

While inside the cemetery I poked around a bit looking at the crypts and old headstones and names. I saw some deer gathered a ways away in the shade and ran when they looked up to see me in the distance. It was a very hot 100 degrees with humidity but still I wanted to look around.

Lisa looked a little bit and headed back into the car to wait for a bit. I ventured out and did not see another soul (living anyway) around me. I did do some EVP work and took a fair number of regular and 3-D shots of the graveyard.

I managed to capture a few good EVPs. Take a listen and tell me what you think.
Recently while attending the Las Vegas Paranormal Conference in May, we had some time off during the day and decided to plan some locations to explore in town and out of town.

First up was just down the road from the famous Fremont Street, just off of Las Vegas Boulevard. The location was a small State Park called "Las Vegas Mormon Fort".

First we looked at artifacts inside the park museum, and watched a bried video on the history of the Fort itself.

Then we were given the privilege to look through the results and findings of recent archeology digs on the site, where many pieces were found. Plates, pipes, mirrors, toys, etc.

Then we moved outside to the oldest building in the park and did some ghost hunting.

We captured some interesting results on our recorders. Lisa Olive who brought us to the site said she had been here before and got some very interesting results. She was right, even in broad daylight just down the street in the 'City of Sin' we captured some voices.

At one point both Anne and myself experienced the same audible sound while we were there (this is inside the far back room with the cradle).

The creek that used to be much bigger is still there but sadly is small and polluted (what can you expect in Las Vegas?). Lots of birds stay in the areas, it is a nice peaceful spot in a busy city. History resides in the smack center of Downtown Las Vegas for those willing to take a look.
I even tried a new process while we were there on the site. I have 15 minutes of prerecorded audio of me asking some questions on one recorder and then placed another one beside it to record to see what I could capture. I walked outside and left it running. Sadly the results were not very fruitful this time; maybe next time.

I would be curious to visit again at this site, to see whom else might be around.

Right after the GHOST ADVENTURES episode aired on the investigation of the old Market Street Theater in San Francisco, we had a rare chance to do our own personal investigation.

I and 6 others began a rainy saturday investigation that lasted about 5 hours in the old movie palace, now strip club since 1972.

We came out with some interesting results in our evidence.

Opened as Grauman’s Imperial Theatre on December 22, 1912, this theatre remained under the operation of Grauman’s until it was sold in 1919.

The theatre was first renamed in August of 1929, as the Premiere Theatre, and then, in 1931, it was renamed again, this time as the United Artists Theatre after undergoing a remodel to the plans of architectural firm Walker & Eisen, with architect Clifford A. Balch. In 1967, the theatre was purchased by Loews, which operated it until 1972, when it became the Market Street Cinema.

Regular movies gave way to XXX adult films and in recent years, these were dropped in favor of adult ‘live’ entertainment performances. The Market Street Cinema was closed around April 2013.

The Market Street Cinema was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986
removed and the strip club was built in its place, a large box. The
balcony remained but the seats were all removed.
We recorded some interesting EVPs inside the club itself, the apartment, the basement (where territorial spirit J.J. lives).

We did not capture any evidence up in the old theater
balcony area or projectionist booth, but I did include some video on the
end so you can at least see what these areas look like.

Some very interesting finds inside this movie palace which I get the feeling won't be around too much longer the way the entire street around it is being shuttered up.

It was a great opportunity to explore and investigate.
Check out the video and see for yourself.

At one point I indicate that there is no evidence found on the video portion in the basement, but I did find it later, so you will see it marked by subtitles on the footage itself.

I won't say too much about the video evidence I caught on the strip club dance stage itself, take a look, I think it is very interesting if nothing else.
About a year ago some friends and I attended a conference at St. Mary Louise's Hospital in Virginia City, NV.

It was the same weekend as the BMX Motor Cross races, so bikes were literally everywhere in town and people were camping inside campers all over. The very race track came down the road towards St. Mary Louise's but turned right as you approach the gate.

We tested out various equipment including the new Precipitator device. We did hold a seance inside what was the morgue of the hospital and also did investigations throughout the building during the weekend.
It seemed on the surface not all that haunted if you were to visit via personal experiences but I did manage to collect some rather unusual EVP's nonetheless.
The video above is over 21 minutes long and it does capture all of the coherent EVP's I found that weekend.

I did have my own personal experience on the top attic floor. Once everyone else had gone to sleep (around 1:30-2:00am) at least from going up to the top floor, I slept inside what was the Nun's room, where back during the hospital days, the Nuns would share the room in shifts to rest, relax, etc. In the middle of the night I hear footsteps outside the door of my room in the hallway. I also heard the sound of a glass jar brushing against wood (in the other room they had beds set up inside the women's infirmary with crates for side tables with glass bottles on some, for how it might have looked. The sound was exactly like one of those bottles being picked up and put back down.

Besides the footsteps, a man talking to someone else in the hallway, and again more footsteps, then all of a sudden it all stopped. Was I a bit frazzled by all of this activity? Yes I was and didn't jump out into the hall to check it out, mainly to see just how long it would continue.

You have to realize on that top floor besides the servants/Nuns room in the middle, there is also the one-room psychiatric ward where there was a fire when a patient had set himself and the room on fire years ago.

The men's ward was on one side of the floor and across the hall was the women's ward. Children were also kept here in an orphan situation. So miners, orphans, nun's and anyone else who had the money to pay for healthcare at the time all in the place at once. It must have been full of people both coming and going with all kinds of stories to tell.

Nice place and the building is in amazing condition considering how old it is. Check out the video see if you can guess some of the EVPs.

On November 18, 2012 I am 5 others trucked out to Cold, snowy, windy, Virginia City, NV for an overnight investigation of the Old Washoe Club.

I think all of us had been there before for a quick tour with 10 other folks clomping around the old "haunted" upstairs. This time it was going to be different, just the 6 of us.

We arrived prior to midnight, hung around the Washoe and then moved into the Museum close the the time the bar was closing. After debriefing on locking up, our overnight began.

It had been raining and windy all day when we arrived on Saturday November 18th, and with some luck the rain did stop before midnight, but sadly the wind did not. It was cold upstairs, bitter cold! You could hear all the windows and the pieces of the roof rise and fall. You could hear boards rattling, wind rustling on the upper floors. Good for a scary haunted house attraction, bad for a paranormal investigation. Still we did the best we could and continued with business at hand.

We set up shop in the ballroom on the 2nd floor and did a quiet session where nobody said anything, then we did a brief EVP session.

Before we all filed into the upstairs, Lisa and I stood inside the room where the back door is located and just stood and listened to get a feel for the old place. To recognize its sounds, its air space, to just learn more about where we were for the night. We did hear what we thought were some footsteps on the third floor above us and some voices talking as well. Then the others had joined us and we moved into the ballroom.

After the ballroom I left an Olympus voice recorder in there for most of the night to continue recording. We all moved off to other rooms and the upper third floor. I took lots of pictures and we did another EVP session upstairs in a smaller tiled room.

With not much else as far as visual and audible, we decided to break into groups of 2 for the next 30 minutes and then take a break.

Terri and I moved back into the "suicide room" on the third floor and the others branched out. Lots of wind and windows banging later, we decided to take our break. I left a camcorder on the top of the upper staircase and caught an interesting surprise on audio, I won't spoil it I will let you hear and see it on the video below.

While inside the museum we had a couple of EVP surprises including the singing of a woman who was heard not once, not twice but three times during the night!

We headed back upstairs a little warmer and did another EVP group session in the ballroom again, and then moved around the building and looked around from room to room.

We called it down an hour or so before the sun was scheduled to rise, and it seemed as though we had
very little encounters with anything paranormal.

Well as we all know, a great deal can be found in the evidence review, and that is exactly what was found and compiled into the video above. Some folks have asked me why I stopped inserting what I thought the EVP's say, I did not want to put the words or phrases into people's heads, I wanted them to decide on their own. So, now I have compromised and done both, first having you guess, then I tell you what I think they are saying.

Check out the video, some interesting things were said, to bad we didn't hear them at the time.
